All About Pekingese

At Dawgs & Co, one of our favourite breeds is one with a regal demeanor and a heart full of love—the Pekingese! Pekingese are known for their proud stance and flowing mane, exuding elegance while maintaining a strong bond with their family. Despite their small size, they are brave, loyal, and fiercely protective, often acting as a little guardian.

The Pekingese can be a loving companion, lapdog, and loyal family member. They are well-suited to apartment living due to their low activity needs, although they enjoy regular walks and playtime. Pekingese have a moderate energy level but should not be over-exercised, especially in hot weather, due to their flat faces, which make them prone to breathing issues (a condition known as brachycephalic syndrome).

The Pekingese is a toy breed that originated in China, where they were highly prized as companions for royalty. Here, we hand-pick European-bred Pekingese puppies as Chinese Pekingese tend to have longer snout compared to their European counterparts, and their bodies might be slightly longer. Their coat is still long and luxurious but might appear somewhat less dense than that of European Pekingese. Their beautiful coats require regular grooming to prevent matting and tangling, and they shed seasonally. Personality-wise, they can be a bit aloof with strangers but are affectionate and playful with their families. With the right care, Pekingese can be wonderful companions, blending charm, intelligence, and a sense of dignity.
